Changes to Social Security in Australia

There will be some major changes to access to social security for migrants from 1st July 2018.
The waiting period will change from two to three years for those applying for Family Tax Benefit, Paid Parental Leave and Carers Allowance. There are some exemptions, including a short term exemption for newly arrived residents who would have been eligible to receive Paid Parental Leave between 1st July 2018 and 31st Dec 2018.
The Assurance of Support requirement applying to family visas will also be increased from two to three years.
